An Aug is either a regular customer who came for materials or medical goods, or an Aug buyer posing as an Upper Level Citizen, Lower Level Citizen or Thief with 150 to 250 Credits. Aug buyers show the Aug look 25% to 40% of the time, freeze 25% of the time and twitch 5% of the time.
An Aug's tier sets how obvious its speech is: tier 1 talks like anyone, tier 4 speaks in robotic three-line answers such as "Initiating communication. I am a normal human." When tiers 2 and 3 name their budget, half of them say "Budget allocated" instead of "I have".
Augs refuse every markup and discount demand. Drawing the shotgun on a tier 4 Aug brings out an obvious line: "I am... very scared. Please do not shoot."
Dr. Jackson stocks the Aug Scanner with a 50% chance while Augs are around and you own none.
Security confirms it. Reward: 100 Credits plus 1 per day since day 12, up to 250. Reputation +8 Security, +2 Revolution, Black Market and Lower Levels. Aug presence drops.
Manslaughter: a 250 Credits fine, 500 from day 25, 750 from day 50. Reputation -15 Security and Lower Levels, -10 Revolution and Black Market.
Aug presence rises.
The Aug is gone when Security arrives: "Damn it! The Aug is gone again?!" No reward, and Aug presence rises.
Perks on a shot Aug
- Convict perk
- Credits and reputation x0.75
- Model Citizen perk
- Credits and reputation x1.5
- Aug Menace perk
- Credits x1.25
Convict and Model Citizen scale every reward the same way: Wanted List reports, thief and contraband reports, and Aug kills. Aug Menace changes only the Credits for an Aug kill.
A shot Aug also gives an Incident Report slip. Threaten works on an Aug: 20% better prices both ways, and the trades give no reputation. On a human, Threaten fails and costs reputation.
Items sold to an Aug are never returned. An Aug exposing a fake costs no reputation.
Aug presence starts at 15 on day 12. Each shot Aug lowers it and each Aug that leaves alive raises it.
| Difficulty | Per shot Aug | Per Aug left alive | Warning the night before | Game over at 100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price Gouge (Cozy Mode) | -25 | +10 | Yes | No |
| Mark Up (Normal Mode) | -25 | +10 | Yes | No |
| Thin Margins (Hard Mode) | -10 | +15 | No | Yes |
| Red Ink (Challenge Mode) | -8 | +16 | No | Yes |
A day that starts with Aug presence at 100 or more ends the game on Thin Margins and Red Ink, and on every difficulty with Aug Menace.
From day 62 on, if presence is 0, the Augs are gone: a Security Officer announces the all-clear. Not with Aug Menace.
Aug content from day 1; the first Aug comes 2 to 4 days in. Kill reward +25%. The menace never ends, and full presence ends the game on every difficulty.
