Animal husbandry
The Rat is the only animal you can raise. Rats live in an Animal Cage, eat, breed and are butchered for meat.

A rat moves towards its weight target each night, scaled by its Growth Rate. From 14 days old the target is 400 g.
Growth slows by up to 50% while hunger is under 400 and halves while starving. After 14 days old it stops unless Longevity is above 1. A rat never drops below 25% of its stage target.

Below 75% hunger a rat first takes from the dispenser, up to its target, then eats one loose food item whole. It never eats Gutterflow Pellets or Industrial Fish Feed, and eats Peat only as dispenser calories.
At 0 hunger it is Starving; still at 0 the next night, it dies.
A rat that eats rat meat gets prion with a chance of 100% minus its Immunity, always if the meat came from a prion rat. Prion takes 20% of Growth Rate, Immunity and Longevity for good.
A rat on the store counter, in back storage or in a display case moves to one with food when under 300 hunger.
Rats can mate from 3 days old, with up to 3 partners per night. The chance is the lower Current Fertility of the pair.
Current Fertility, from the Fertility gene

- Up to -40%
- From 11 days old, later with higher Longevity
- -15%
- Diseased
- -75%
- Per overcrowding level
- -20%
Pregnancy lasts 3 nights. The litter is about Litter Size pups, give or take one, at least 1. A pregnant rat that is starving loses the litter 75% of the time each night.
Healing per night
- Immunity 50 or more
- +30% of max health per night
- Immunity 30, the base
- +6% of max health per night
- Immunity 25
- No healing
- Immunity below 25
- Loses health each night
A diseased rat loses 25% of its max health each night and recovers with a chance equal to its Immunity. Below 50 Immunity it has a 5% to 25% chance each night to fall ill.
From 14 days old, later with higher Longevity, a rat has a 75% chance to die of old age each night.
Feces and dead animals raise the disease risk once they cover a quarter of the cage. Overcrowding comes in 3 levels as the animals fill 55%, 70% and 90% of the cage; at level 2 there is a 5%, at level 3 a 15% nightly chance a heavier rat kills a lighter one.
A rat that gained 30 g or more in a night leaves feces: Large from 1,000 g, normal from 600 g, else Small.

Each gene has two alleles and shows their average. A newborn takes one allele from each parent, with a 15% mutation chance. The Gene Scanner shows every gene.
A blade on a live rat kills it; on a dead one it butchers it. The Auto Butcher and the Livestock Feed Dispenser do it too. The weight is cut into Raw Meat per 400 g, Raw Meat (Small) per 200 g, Morsel per 100 g and Small Morsel per 50 g, plus a Small Morsel for any rest. A diseased rat counts at 75% weight.
