In-game description

The Order is the Order. It has no other name. The Order is neither good nor evil. It exists only to enforce the "Rules" it recognizes. Once a person enters the Order, they shall never leave. Should anyone flee of their own accord, the Order shall not permit them to remain among the living.

Pages

  • The OrderThe Order is simply the Order. It has no other name. The Order kills those no one else can kill. It saves those no one else can save. The Order upholds the "rules" recognized throughout the Wulin. It concerns itself with fairness, rejecting the belief that good and evil must always stand opposed, and judging both by the same standard. Guided by this principle, founder Mu Tianmiao spent decades growing what began as an organization of just three people. To this day, the pressure exerted by the Order in enforcing the "Rules" can be felt throughout the Wulin, yet little is known of how the Order itself truly operates.
  • Shadow Sovereign and Shadow Edicts[Shadow Sovereign: Mu Tianmiao] Founder of the Order. A peerless martial artist, and a keener judge of men still. Over forty years under his leadership, the Order has drawn countless masters into its ranks, and the rules it enforces have come to shape the entire Wulin. [Shadow Edict: Inanis] The foremost master of Phantom Arts in all the Wulin. She commands the Order's entire intelligence network and handles every matter touching the Discordance. Her body was destroyed in the battle against the Eleven; she now appears only as a projection of consciousness. [Shadow Edict: The Servant] A genius of the Engine Art, seemingly born to a storied family of mechanists and cast out for breaking a taboo - hence the lowly name he gives himself, "the Servant." He has built a wealth of wondrous machina constructs far beyond this era. [Shadow Edict: "Dark Monk" Channa] A monk who has mastered three hundred and sixty heretical arts long lost to the world, and ranks among the Wulin's ten finest in the use of at least nine different weapons. Volatile and unpredictable by nature, he has since vanished without a trace. [Shadow Edict: "Black Scar" Soul] One of Sovereign Mu's adopted sons, taken in by the Order as a child. His movement art, "Phantom," makes him a specter in combat; his "Blade" art kills in a single stroke. He is the sharpest knife the Order wields. [Shadow Edict: "Purple Shadow" Zuo Shang] One of Sovereign Mu's adopted sons, taken in by the Order alongside Soul. A master of the long game, his cunning is the equal of the Sovereign's own. His swordsmanship has reached the realm of perfection, crowned by a golden sword aura without peer in this world. [The Sixth Shadow Edict] This record has been destroyed.
  • The Envoys of the Order[Lei Dang] Soul's former partner. Straightforward, steadfast, and fiercely loyal. After losing his right arm years ago, he fitted himself with a massive Tiger Cannon, granting him the power to take on a hundred men alone. [Chang Hong] A spearman with a strong sense of honor and justice, calm and dependable. He has no desire to become embroiled in conflict, wishing only to keep his wife and daughter safe. His spearmanship is peerless. Though he often faces mortal danger on the most difficult of missions, he always manages to turn danger aside. [Jade Dancer] Personal guard to the Young Mistress, Mu Xiaokui. With ferocious footwork she wields the Fiend Saws, a pair of blades worn on her legs - dancing through the air, she parts heads from shoulders. [Iron Fiend] The other of Mu Xiaokui's personal guards. Wielding a pair of Iron Gauntlets, his fists fall with unmatched force - and he has passed the essence of that art down to the Young Mistress herself.
  • The ElevenMany years ago, masters from every corner of the Wulin flocked to Soulrend Cliff to view a surviving fragment of the Celestial Tome. There, maddened by the tolling of a strange bell, they turned on one another - and the cliff ran with rivers of blood. Yet ten survived the slaughter, along with the orphaned child of one who died there. Drawing on the knowledge within the Tome fragment, these Eleven were given new life. Under Sha-Chi's sway, their obsessions swelled, and in service of them they crafted schemes and tragedies alike, spreading Transcension across the whole of the Wulin. Then, after years of bitter fighting, the Order broke the Eleven one by one. But can such beings ever truly die?
  • Engine Boats and DocksThe Servant's "Engine Workshop" has developed many devices for the Order that make travel easier. The Engine Boat is one such creation, powered by Sha-Chi to travel swiftly across the water. Waterside towns often have docks where these Engine Boats can be repaired and resupplied. The boatmasters who oversee the docks are invariably capable men. Not only do they know the construction and maintenance of Engine Boats inside and out, they also have extensive connections. Passing fleets bring them information on waterways, developments in nearby towns, and intelligence on surrounding factions. Little escapes the boatmasters' ears.
  • The Fall of the Lóng and MóMore than thirty years ago, the Order worked from both inside and out with the Lóng Clan to launch an all-out siege on the Bastion of Mó and destroy them. Less than a month after this battle, through a series of interlocking schemes, The Order rapidly sowed discord and divided the Lóng Clan. This incited a civil war, causing the Lóng Clan to fracture into numerous minor families and eventually disappear from the Wulin. Rumor has it that The Order captured one infant from the Bastion of Mó and another from the Lóng Clan, raising them both in complete secrecy to this day.
  • Shadow Wardens and the MindsealThe secret operatives trained by the Order are called Shadow Wardens. Using a "Mindseal" - driving a single directive into their minds like a wedge, replacing their original thoughts - the subjects are made to accept and obey this directive as if it were their own, ensuring their "loyalty" to the Order as Shadow Wardens. But in this way, the Mindseal does not bestow absolute control over the subject, but instead is a form of hypnosis, and it cannot control those with powerful wills.
  • The Secret TavernCommissions for the Order make their way across the Wulin through this network of unassuming Taverns, though few are deemed worthy of the Order's time. A "worthy" commission is often a request from a powerless sect or individual. One who has suffered an injustice, or cannot seek help via traditional means.
  • The Four Serpent HousesGreen Serpent House, located in the back streets of Pangzhen, specializes in reproducing many secret medicines of the Wulin. Red Serpent House, north of the long bridge in Crimson Forest, is dedicated to studying the fusion of medicine and Esoteric Arts. Black Serpent House, in the western corner of the Village of Lu, specializes in antidotes. White Serpent House, on an island in eastern Meigu Lake, has stopped dispensing medicine.
