In-game description

In the eastern Wulin, the Thread-Binding Sect answers to the Herald. Yet the title "Herald" itself seems to imply an envoy acting on behalf of The Merciful Lady of the Blossom Veil.

Letter to the High ElderMost Esteemed High Elder, In response to your inquiry, I have completed Number Ninety-Nine. From now on, it will provide passage to the Heart of the Lake. Its Crystal Eyeball has also been safely hidden away. There is no risk of it being stolen, so please rest assured. Respectfully, The Herald of the Veil
Unfinished "Scripture of the Lady"This scripture is intended to proclaim the boundless grace of the Lady, enlighten the ignorant villagers, and ease their fears over the strange phenomena caused by Soul Displacement and the manipulation of puppets, all in fulfillment of the Lady's grand wish. SACRED PROCLAMATION OF THE MERCIFUL LADY OF THE BLOSSOM VEIL Amid the dust of the mortal world, Fires of calamity burn unchecked. Maskwalkers bare their dreadful forms, And countless lives hang in peril. Blades know no rest, The righteous path lies long in ruin. Endless stretches the darkened night, Boundless spreads the tide of sorrow. Then comes the Merciful Lady, To shelter the world from calamity. Alone She enters flame and flood, Her compassion reaching all beneath Heaven. By the Blossom Veil, the covenant is sealed; To the sincere, Her presence is revealed. Her ancient image conceals Her countenance, Yet Her will travels far and wide. Pray, and surely there shall be answer. Call, and surely there shall be peace. Great in mercy, great in compassion, She eases suffering and shields against calamity...
Thread-Binding Sect Member's LetterTo the Herald, In accordance with your order, all combat-ready puppets have been handed over to the Order. Chi Shao of the Thread-Binding Sect
Letter from the High ElderHerald, I am pleased to hear that research on "Puppet Zero" and the "Perfect Yin Vessel" is progressing well. However, I fear a traitor may be at work. The agreed-upon "token" has yet to reach my hands. I have already dispatched my disciples to investigate the matter thoroughly. I trust that you, too, will remain vigilant and ensure that no such lapse occurs again. (Seven personal seals in strangely colored inks are stamped here.)
Secret Report on DuskTo the Master Herald, Village of Lu has now been completely sealed off. We are certain to capture Dusk and recover the missing item! (A strange seal is stamped in place of a signature.)
Puppet Mute's Blueprint(A puppet with no tongue. "Mute" appears to be its name. Beside it is a separately marked "tongue," with two short lines written underneath.) It is both a tongue and a key. Place Mute in The Crimson Manor.
Rules of the Radiant Heart Workshop1. Anyone entering the Radiant Heart workshop must take one dose of the specially prepared Still Poison. The medicine is mild. It merely leaves the limbs temporarily weak and numb so that movement can be controlled, and it poses no threat to life. An antidote will restore the visitor immediately upon departure, or the effects may be allowed to fade naturally after four hours. Anyone who refuses the dose will be denied entry. 2. Without the workshop master's permission, visitors may not leave their assigned positions, wander about, or enter restricted areas. Any consequences will be their own responsibility. 3. Everything seen or heard within the Radiant Heart workshop is confidential. It may not be discussed outside the premises. Anyone who divulges its secrets will bear the consequences. ... (More than ten additional rules follow.)
Unsent LetterMaster Bai, Thanks to your ingenious assistance, the Lady's sacred vessel is nearing completion through the techniques developed for Vessel Zero. Final calibration should be finished within seven days. This male-bodied Perfect Yang Vessel differs from the Lady's Perfect Yin Vessel in both yin and yang and has required considerable labor. It has been crafted especially for you as a modest token of my gratitude for your invaluable help. As for visiting the Radiant Heart workshop, I must ask for your understanding and insist that its rules be observed. These precautions are essential to the experiment, and even you cannot be exempt. Should you send a subordinate in your stead, that person must receive a double dose of the required medicine. Rest assured: it will pose no danger to life or martial ability.
Report from Leng Tu's Trusted AgentRespectfully: All of the Soul Displacement Powder has been placed into the wells and rivers throughout the Village of Lu and Pangzhen. (An eerie mark appears where the signature should be.)
PetCompared to those discarded test subjects, it prefers the taste of Wulin martial artists. Whatever it gets its hands on, it tries to fuse into its own body and put to use... Quite an interesting pet to study. Few in the Wulin still dare oppose me. What should I feed it next?
Fragment with Three Handwritings"Three Souls as One"... But why... why haven't we gotten any better? The three-headed doll... that's gone too... Forget that ridiculous lie! Bai Chilian has been defeated! Once the Herald leaves for the Heart of the Lake, we'll hide in that forest! No more... being controlled - no! It isn't cold enough there! Then turn it into winter with your ice! No, no... he'll know... we... can't escape!!!
Research Notes on YucongWithin Yucong, frost, chaos, and steel exist in perfect balance. Together, the three forces are unstoppable, yet impossible to separate. Through Phantom Arts, I have uncovered a weakness. Though the chaos abhors the cold, it reacts sluggishly. Frost struggles violently when exposed to intense heat. A weapon of extreme heat may shatter the balance between the three forces, briefly separating the three souls... Once divided, the three souls lose most of their strength. A pity... What a terrible waste.
