Overview

Shinehorn is a small herbivore that functions as a Shoulder Pet. It provides weight reduction for gathered resources and can be carried by larger flying and swimming creatures. This makes it useful for efficient resource transport during aerial or aquatic expeditions.

It can be airlifted by Argentavis, Desmodus, Griffin, Karkinos, Megalosaurus, Tropeognathus, Kaprosuchus, Procoptodon, Pteranodon, Quetzal, Tapejara, or Tusoteuthis for rapid deployment across the map.

More about taming the Shinehorn

Shinehorn is tamed passively. Feed it Plant Species Z Seed to complete the process. Aggeravic Mushroom also works but provides significantly less affinity per use. The tame takes about 1 minute with 5 Plant Species Z Seeds at level 150 on official settings. No narcotics are needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.

About gathering

While ridden, Shinehorn gathers a wide variety of plant-based resources. Its melee attack harvests Berries, Mejoberry, Narcoberry, Stimberry, Rare Flower, Rare Mushroom, Plant Species X Seed, Plant Species Y Seed, and Wood at 10× efficiency. It also gathers Fiber and Cactus Sap at 8×. This makes it ideal for farming seeds and stimulant berries.

Combat notes

Shinehorn has a strong weakness to Instant HurtDinos, taking +120% more damage. It is highly resistant to Radiation, taking -100% damage. Explosion and melee attacks from metal weapons also exploit its vulnerabilities. Avoid using spike walls or ranged turrets, as it resists those damage types.

The Head has a damage multiplier of 3x, making headshots highly effective for knocking out Shinehorn. Focus attacks on the jaw area for maximum efficiency.

Can break Thatch structures. Build at least in Wood to protect against Shinehorn damage.

Experience

  • Shinehorn takes +120% more damage from Instant HurtDinos, making it vulnerable in dino-heavy combat zones.
  • It is completely immune to Radiation damage, allowing safe operation in irradiated biomes.
  • Its melee attack gathers most berries, seeds, and wood at 10× efficiency, ideal for stimulant and crop farming.
  • It can be carried by flyers like Argentavis and swimmers like Tusoteuthis, enabling mobile harvesting from the air or sea.
