Mod description
Happy Hour introduces alcohol mechanics and venue management to your game. Open a pub on your lot, or just grab a drink at a local pub.
🍻 Run Your Own Pub!
You can make your venue fully automated - NPCs will grab food and beer on their own, and you just need to be on the lot. Alternatively, you can choose to serve your guests manually. You can find more details on how to do that below!
🛠️ How to Build Your Venue
In Build Mode, look for the "Happy Hour mod" tab. It contains all essential items and unlocked developer objects perfect for furnishing your pub.
- Open/Closed Sign - Required. Apart from opening and closing your venue, this sign is where you can hire a dishwasher and switch between service modes (Full service / Self-service).
- Menu Kiosk - Required for Food Manual (Full Service) mode. This is where you manage your food menu and where NPCs place their food orders. You do not need it if you use automated (Self-service) mode for food, and it is not needed for serving beer.
- Beer Tap - Place this if you plan on selling draft beer to your guests.
- Speakers - Install these if you want your tipsy guests to hit the dance floor.
Everything else is entirely up to your taste - decorate your dream venue however you like! You don't have to limit yourself to a traditional pub; you can just as easily use these mechanics to build a cozy bakery or a small cafe serving grandma’s cookies! 🍪
📋 How to Open Your Pub & Serve Orders
Click the sign -> "Open for business". Changes to food/beer service modes can be toggled independently.
🍳 Food Service (Full Service)
- Prepare the Food Cook any group meal from the base game.
- Add to Menu Click on the prepared meal and select "Add to menu". You can check your current selection by clicking on the Menu Kiosk.
- Manage Options Don't forget to update your menu and remove outdated items. The "Sell" button removes a specific dish, while the "Clear menu" button wipes it entirely.
- Take & Serve Orders Wait until an NPC orders a dish at the Menu Kiosk. You will receive a notification. Click on the prepared food, select "Serve order", and choose the correct Parafolk.
- Be Careful If you pick the wrong customer or the wrong meal, you won't get paid!
- Earnings & Service Skill For a successful delivery, you will receive the base price of the dish (calculated as half the cost of the group meal) plus tips. Tips depend on the new Service skill, which levels up with every correct order. At the maximum level 10, your tips will reach a whopping +100% of the dish's price!
🍺 Beer Service (Full Service)
- Watch the Bar If there is a Beer Tap on the lot, NPCs will approach it and raise their hand to order a drink.
- Get Notified You will instantly receive a "New Order" notification.
- Serve the Drink Click on the Beer Tap and select the correct Parafolk to hand over their beer. Just like with food, a correct order rewards you with money, skill experience, and nice tips!
🛒 Self-Service Mode (Automated)
If you prefer a hands-off approach, you can switch your venue to Self-service.
- How it works Just prepare group meals and ensure you have a Beer Tap on the lot. NPCs will automatically come up, grab their own food, and pour their own beer.
- Your role All you need to do is stay on the lot and enjoy the atmosphere.
- Payouts Since the guests do all the work, you will only receive the base price for food and drinks. You will not earn any tips or Service skill experience in this mode.
⚠️ KNOWN ISSUES & GAME LIMITATIONS
- Signboard Glitch NEVER move the signboard between different lots or delete it while it's active. To safely relocate your pub to another lot, you must first reset the sign to its default state: CLOSE the pub, CLOSE the dishwasher vacancy, and set all Service Modes back to "Full Service". Only then can you safely DELETE the old sign and place a brand-new one on the new lot.
HOW TO FIX If you relocated/deleted the sign incorrectly and guest autonomy broke (e.g., they ignore commands, spawn endlessly, or grab food themselves instead of ordering), delete the sign, SAVE your game, RELOAD to the main menu, and place a fresh sign. Everything will reset and work perfectly.
- NPC Stuck You might encounter a situation where a Parafolk places an order and immediately leaves or refuses to take the plate. This happens if the game's core AI commands them to go home or to work at that exact second.
How to complete the order if a Parafolk gets stuck near the food plate: Drag-select them into a group, cancel their stuck action, then offer the dish again. Or just ignore it and tell them to go home.
🍺 Alcohol Stages & Mechanics
Each drink increases the chance to advance to the next stage. The exact number of mugs required carries an element of randomness every time.
- Stage 1 Tipsy. Every mug brings dynamic mood swings. Your Parafolk might start the evening full of joy, only to end up drowning their sorrows by midnight.
The "Drunken Master" Buff. When drinking brings happiness, your Parafolk gets a stacking skill boost. It usually buffs their current hobby, but sometimes alcohol brings a sudden burst of inspiration. However, if they fall into a bad mood, all advantages are lost.
- Stage 2 Drunk. Getting properly drunk kills all motivation for learning skills. From this stage onward, custom animations (walking, idles, talks) and new together cards are unlocked.
- Stage 3 Wasted. Nausea sets in. Just... go home and go to bed before you completely pass out in the middle of the pub.
🌟 Additional Features
- Drinking Buddy System. Drink heavily with the same Parafolk to earn this bond. Drinking together makes your Parafolk less susceptible to the negative emotional side effects of alcohol.
- Drunken Intimacy. If a tipsy flirt goes well, a special romantic "Suggest a Drunken Adventure" together card will unlock. Success awards a permanent Drunken Fling Partner status, allowing kisses and intimate relationships when both Paras are drunk.
- Passing Out. A wasted Parafolk with low energy might crash and fall asleep straight on the floor. Nearby NPCs might occasionally walk over and kick them awake.
- Dynamic Hangovers. Waking up depends on how much you drank. It can pass unnoticed or hit heavily, causing your Parafolk to experience waves of nausea.
- Improved NPC Autonomy. Pub life is no longer empty. Townies will now actively order drinks and hit the dancefloor around speakers.
⚠️ MOD COMPATIBILITY
- NOT compatible with Basemental's beer mod (both modify the same drinking actions). Running them together locks the "Drunk" status after the first mug, breaking all stages and animations and features of Happy Hour. Do not use them together.
Also, check out my cigarette mod Smoke Break. It would be awesome if you gave it a try. Both mods are ongoing projects, and I will expand them as the game updates.
