Lost Colony - Detailed Guide
Lost Colony is the first paid canonical Expansion Pack for ARK: Survival Ascended and the sixth canonical expansion in the ARK franchise. Released on December 19, 2025, it plunges survivors into Arat Prime - a shattered Earth where the southern pole is locked in eternal night. Set in the Necrocene era, this story-driven expansion bridges the events of Extinction and ARK Genesis, featuring seven new biomes, 13+ new creatures, the Thrall Mastery system, and a 70+ skill tree.
Seven Biomes of Arat Prime
Arat Prime is a vertical, tiered ecosystem where altitude, latitude, and corruption levels dictate danger and reward:
The Lost King's Dominion
A majestic gothic metropolis at the heart of Arat Prime. Safe for the obedient, but aggression generates Hostility from elite Thrall patrols. This is where the Lost King's power is concentrated and where the endgame Citadel awaits.
The Tundra
The map's outer perimeter - a desolate Arctic expanse scarred with craters and debris from the fallen Aberration ARK. This is where most survivors awaken and where you should learn the basics before advancing inward.
Twilight Forest & Mountains
A fantasy boreal nightmare where bioluminescent flora reacts dynamically to the Auroras overhead. As you ascend, the forest thins into craggy peaks and knife-edged rocky spires. Home to the deadly Gloon creature.
Hot Springs
Scattered across the map in varying concentrations, these thermal oases provide warmth and safety in the frozen landscape. Safe Hot Springs hidden in the tundra make excellent early-game base locations.
The Caldera
A volcanic crater featuring a massive sacred ring dedicated to the Lost King. One of the most dangerous end-game zones with extreme environmental hazards and the rarest materials on the map.
Dark Forest
An eerie, shadow-drenched woodland leading to increasingly dangerous threats. The dark canopy hides aggressive creatures and valuable resources for mid-game progression.
Aberrant Crash Sites
The landscape is scarred by the crash of the Aberration ARK, resulting in radioactive zones filled with mutated creatures and pools of liquid Edmundium. Requires radiation protection to explore safely.
Map Structure: Three Tiers
Arat Prime is organized into concentric rings of increasing difficulty:
• Outer Ring (Beginner): The Tundra and gateway forests - where survivors awaken and learn the basics
• Mid Ring (Intermediate): Twilight Forest, Mountains, and transitional biomes leading to the Dominion
• Inner Ring (End-Game): The Lost King's Dominion, The Caldera, and crash sites with the toughest enemies and rarest materials
Unique Features & Mechanics
What makes Lost Colony a groundbreaking expansion:
• Thrall Mastery System: Subdue and recruit Thralls, Neophytes, and Revenants to command in battle
• 70+ Skill Tree: Specialize across Wayfarer, Beastmaster, and Utility paths with milestone-based progression
• Outpost Progression: Weaken the Lost King through three dynamic Outpost types to earn Sigils
• Gothic Engineering: Fabricated Crossbow, Tek Spear, Cursed Weaponry with dual traits
• Base Templates & TEK Bunkers: Revolutionary stronghold building systems
• Cinematic Story: Featuring voice performances by Michelle Yeoh and Karl Urban
• Canonical Storyline: Bridges Extinction and ARK Genesis narratives
• Eternal Night Setting: Permanent darkness on the southern pole creates a unique atmosphere
• War Bench: Advanced crafting station for forging masterwork equipment
Survival Strategies
Essential knowledge for surviving the Necrocene:
• Start in the Tundra outer ring and work inward as you gain levels and skills
• Seek out Hot Springs early for warmth and safe base locations in the frozen landscape
• Invest skill points strategically - the Beastmaster path excels for creature-focused play
• Bring radiation protection before exploring Aberrant Crash Sites
• Avoid generating Hostility in the Lost King's Dominion until you're ready for Thrall patrols
• Complete Outposts to earn Sigils needed for the final Citadel confrontation
• Equip Arctic Armor before venturing deep into the Tundra's extreme cold
• Recruit Thralls at Defense and Attack Outposts to build your army

New Necrocene Creatures
Over 13 new creatures adapted to survive Arat Prime's frozen wasteland:
• Veilwyn: Fox-like companion that teleports through portals; evolves into Solwyn (fire) or Malwyn (corruption)
• Ossidon: Monstrous primate with cryogenic elemental power adapted to frozen wastes
• Aureliax: Colossal Chinese-style dragon that warps reality - heals allies or crushes enemies with gravity
• Drakelings: Miniature shoulder-pet dragons available in seasonal variants via the Expansion Pass
• Elderclaw: Forest guardian draped in blossoms that commands living vines to armor or entangle
• The Gloon: Deadliest creature in the Twilight Forest
• Thralls: Recruitable foot soldiers of the Lost King
• Neophytes: Elite enforcers that trigger Purge events
• Revenants: Corrupted monstrosities guarding crash sites
The Thrall System
Lost Colony's defining mechanic transforms survival into tactical command gameplay:
• Thralls: Basic soldiers found at Defense and Attack Outposts - subdue and recruit to your army
• Neophytes: Elite enforcers that trigger dangerous Purge events when engaged
• Revenants: Corrupted monstrosities guarding Aberrant Crash Sites - the toughest faction enemies
• Outpost Types: Three dynamic variants to conquer for earning Sigils toward the final Citadel assault
• Territory Control: Factions behave intelligently, controlling areas and responding to threats
Strategic Base Locations
Recommended areas to establish your presence on Arat Prime:
• Tundra Hot Springs: Safe thermal oases offering warmth and protection for early-game bases
• Twilight Forest Edge: Bioluminescent beauty with access to wood, stone, and mid-tier creatures
• Mountain Plateaus: Elevated positions with strategic views and metal access
• Dark Forest Clearings: Hidden spots with resource access for mid-game progression
• Near Outposts: Strategic proximity to Thrall recruitment and Sigil farming locations
Lost Colony represents the most ambitious expansion in ARK history, delivering a cinematic, story-driven survival experience set in the haunting Necrocene era. From recruiting Thralls to command in battle, to evolving your Veilwyn companion, to challenging the Lost King in his gothic Citadel - every system works together to create a deeply rewarding progression through Arat Prime's frozen darkness. This canonical chapter bridges Extinction and ARK Genesis while introducing mechanics that redefine what an ARK expansion can be.
