Overview
马来貘 (学名：Tapirus indicus) 是一种原生于东南亚雨林的哺乳类动物。 马来貘的头部、肩膀、前肢与后肢为黑色，身体中段和后部为白色。它们体格壮硕，拥有具抓握能力的独特长鼻。 马来貘身长约 1.8 至 2.5 米，体重约 250 至 540 公斤。雌性的体型通常略大于雄性，体重也比雄性重 10% 至 20% 左右。

马来貘通常独居生活，但也曾观察到一雄一雌制的伴侣和它们的年轻后代一起生活，或者组成临时的抚幼群体。它们能接受与其他个体一起生活。 它们的繁殖季发生在五月和六月之间。雌性马来貘行经雄性马来貘的地盘时，雄性会通过雌性的尿液气味展开追踪。它们相遇时，雄性会轻碰或嗅闻雌性的身体后半部并追逐雌性，表现出求偶行为。如果雌性接受求偶，则会让雄性骑上背部并进行交配，它们会在雌性处于发情期时一天交配多次。交配后，它们有可能会继续一起生活，也可能会分道扬镳。 怀孕 390 至 410 天后，雌性会产下一只幼貘。幼貘出生后的第一周都会躲在灌木丛中，母亲会常常返回灌木丛喂养幼貘。幼貘一周大时将与母亲一同觅食。 幼貘会待在母亲身边直到 1 至 2 岁，时间长短取决于它们的母亲何时产下另一只幼貘。它们会在 3 岁时达到性成熟。
