Multiplayer
Moon Sweepers is played solo or in a crew of up to 16 players, the host included. Everyone plays on the host's Moon; money, waypoints and upgrades (the upgrade matrix, container upgrades and suit gear) are shared by the whole crew; tools and vehicles are each player's own.

| Thing | In a crew |
|---|---|
| Money | Shared by the whole crew |
| Waypoints | Shared by the whole crew |
| Tools | Your own |
| Upgrades (upgrade matrix, container upgrades, suit gear) | Shared by the whole crew: one purchase upgrades everyone |
| Vehicles | Your own, bought with the crew's money |
| The Moon | The host's save slot |
The game's own How to play page still says upgrades are your own; since patch 1.0.3 the whole crew shares the host's upgrade matrix.
Who can join
The host picks who can join when starting a game: Friends only, Public or Invite only. Public games show up in the Join game list. Friends are invited through the Steam overlay from the main menu or the pause menu.
Host rules
| Rule | Fact |
|---|---|
| Host leaves | The game ends for everyone. The game shows: "The host left: their Moon goes with them." |
| Kick | The host kicks a crewmate from the pause menu: they leave the crew now. They can join again later. |
| Ban | The host bans a crewmate from the same menu: they leave the crew now and can't join this Moon again until the host unbans them. Bans are kept with the save slot, up to 360. |
| Unban | The host lifts a ban with Unban in the same menu. |
| Game version | Joining needs the same game version as the host. |
| Steam | Crews run through Steam; without Steam running the game is solo. |
