Taming the Shadowmane doesn't require unconsciousness. Instead, sneak up to it and hand-feed its preferred food. Its preferred food is Extraordinary Kibble.
After taming, the Shadowmane can serve multiple roles depending on how you level its stats after taming. Breeding is via live birth rather than eggs, simplifying the process. A wild Shadowmane is worth 5 base experience when killed. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.95 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
