Valguero - Detailed Guide
Valguero is a free, official expansion map for ARK: Survival Ascended spanning over 63 km² of diverse terrain. This remastered map features layered biomes from snow deserts and chalk cliffs to volcanic ridges, lush valleys, an Aberration-style underground zone, and a unique enclosed underground ocean called The Abyss. Valguero introduced the fan-favorite Deinonychus and is known for its stunning variety and vertical exploration.
Biomes & Regions
Valguero packs remarkable biome diversity into its 63 km², with dramatic climate shifts between regions:
The White Cliffs
Also known as the Chalk Hills, this dramatic biome features bright white cliff faces, flat plateaus ideal for building, and waterfalls. Rich in Metal, Crystal, Obsidian, Cactus Sap, and Sand. Watch out for Deinonychus, Allosaurus, and Raptors in the area.
Central Greenlands
Expansive central plains ideal for large bases and taming projects. Lush grasslands with moderate danger and abundant basic resources. A great staging area for expeditions to more dangerous regions.
Snow Mountains
Northern mountains with blizzards, Mammoths, and Dire Wolves. Rich in metal deposits and offers challenging cold-weather survival. Auroras and occasional shooting stars light up the night sky.
Southern Jungles
The southern region is fertile, green, and relatively calm - a safe haven for new players to get established. Abundant in basic resources with fewer aggressive predators.
Aberration Zone
An underground Aberration-style zone with mushroom forests, glowing rock formations, and radiation areas. Flying is disabled in the trench. Contains rare Aberration creatures and resources including Gems and Bio Toxin from mushrooms. Located at coordinates (38,57).
The Abyss
A unique enclosed underground ocean - the first of its kind in ARK. The ceiling is solid rock with no surface access for oxygen. Home to dangerous creatures like Tusoteuthis. Contains all ocean creature spawns despite Valguero having no surrounding ocean.
The Great Lake
A large central lake that substitutes for a traditional ocean, hosting aquatic creature spawns. Silica Pearls can be found at the bottom, and Beaver Dams line the rivers flowing into it.
Volcanic Ridge
Volcanic ridges with lava flows and extreme heat. Contains rich metal and sulfur deposits. Prepare heat-resistant gear before venturing into this region. Fire Wyvern eggs are found in lava caverns below.
Unique Features
What makes Valguero stand out from other ARK maps:
• Deinonychus: Exclusive creature that climbs walls, pounces prey, and pins enemies - a fan-favorite glass cannon
• Double Wyvern Trench: Ice Wyverns in the surface snow trench, Fire Wyverns in underground lava caverns
• The Abyss: First-ever enclosed underground ocean with no surface access
• Aberration Zone: Underground biome with no-fly rule, radiation, and Aberration creatures
• Wild Broodmothers: First expansion map with a roaming boss creature
• Grendel Encounter: ASA-exclusive boss fight requiring hazard gear and heavy weaponry
• Megaraptor & Elderclaw: ASA-exclusive creatures added to the Valguero ecosystem
• Vertical Exploration: Layered biomes from deep underground to mountain peaks
• Triple Boss Fight: Dragon, Manticore, and Megapithecus fought simultaneously in the Forsaken Oasis
Survival Strategies
Essential knowledge for thriving on Valguero:
• Start in the southern jungles for the safest early game with abundant resources
• Build elevated in the White Cliffs to control lines of sight and flight paths
• Bring a Hazard Suit before exploring the Aberration Zone - radiation is present
• Remember that flying is disabled in the Aberration Trench
• Farm Deinonychus eggs from nests on The Paradise and Chalk Hills for powerful tames
• Use caves as protected industrial hubs but secure entrances with defenses
• Combine surface metal runs with Aberration mushroom biome trips for rare materials
• Prepare for drastic climate shifts - freezing snow, volcanic heat, and foggy valleys
