Extinction - Detailed Guide

Extinction takes place on a devastated Earth, offering a post-apocalyptic landscape with unique challenges and opportunities. This map introduces corrupted creatures, element-infused areas, and massive titan bosses that roam the world.

Unique Regions & Biomes

Extinction features several distinct environments within a ruined Earth:

Sanctuary (City)

The ruined city center serves as a relatively safe starting area. Features abandoned buildings, bridges, and infrastructure for unique base locations. Lower-level creatures spawn here, making it ideal for beginners.

Wasteland

The barren area surrounding the city and domes. Highly dangerous with corrupted creatures and element veins. Contains valuable resources but presents constant threats from corrupted creatures and environmental hazards.

Desert Dome

A massive dome containing a preserved desert ecosystem. Home to unique resources and creatures similar to Scorched Earth. Features desert-specific challenges like heat and limited water.

Snow Dome

A preserved arctic environment within a protective dome. Contains cold-weather creatures and resources. Requires specialized gear to handle extreme cold temperatures.

Forest Dome

A lush forest environment protected within a dome. Features abundant plant life, resources, and creatures. Most hospitable of the domes with plentiful resources.

Underground Forest

A hidden forest beneath the wasteland. Accessible through various entrances, offering unique resources and relative safety from surface threats.

Unique Features & Mechanics

Extinction introduces several new gameplay elements:

• Element Corruption: Areas and creatures corrupted by element, presenting new dangers

• Orbital Supply Drops (OSDs): Defense events that reward valuable loot

• Element Nodes: Harvestable resource nodes that trigger defense events

• City Terminals: Crafting stations for Extinction-specific items

• Titan Bosses: Massive creatures that roam the map and can be temporarily tamed

• Enforcers & Scouts: Mechanical creatures that can be crafted and tamed

• Cryopods: Item for storing and transporting tamed creatures

• Gacha Creatures: Living resource generators that produce crystals containing random items

Survival Strategies

Essential knowledge for thriving on Extinction:

• Start in the Sanctuary (city) area for the safest early game experience

• Tame a Velonasaur early for protection against corrupted creatures

• Build bases on elevated structures in the city to avoid ground predators

• Craft Enforcer and Scout companions for additional protection

• Tame Gacha creatures for passive resource generation

• Use element veins for resources but be prepared for waves of corrupted creatures

• Attempt Orbital Supply Drops only when well-equipped and with strong tames

• Explore the domes for resources specific to each biome

●

Yellow (Hard): Challenging even for well-equipped teams

●

Red (Very Hard): Extremely difficult, requiring top-tier tames and gear

●

Purple (Impossible): Nearly impossible without multiple players and the strongest possible tames

Element Veins

Similar to OSDs but focused on element harvesting:

●

Blue (Low): Yields small amounts of element with moderate difficulty

●

Yellow (Medium): Provides more element with increased challenge

●

Red (High): Offers substantial element rewards but extremely difficult

Titan Bosses

Massive creatures that roam specific regions of the map:

●

Desert Titan: Flying creature found in the Desert Dome, controls flocks of smaller creatures

●

Ice Titan: Massive ice elemental in the Snow Dome with powerful frost attacks

●

Forest Titan: Tree-like giant in the Forest Dome that can uproot and throw trees

●

King Titan (Final Boss): Ultimate challenge accessed through a terminal in the city

Strategic Base Locations

Recommended places to establish your presence:

• City Skyscrapers (70,50): Elevated and relatively safe from ground threats

• Sunken Forest (45,75): Hidden underground area with resources and protection

• Forest Dome Interior (25,60): Abundant resources with moderate danger

The combination of ruined city landscapes, preserved biome domes, and wasteland areas creates diverse gameplay opportunities. Whether defending against corrupted creatures, harvesting element veins, or taking on the mighty Titans, Extinction provides a challenging endgame experience that ties together the ARK storyline.
